I am a CKD patient for the last 29 years. However, throughout these years, I have been able to keep my creatinine in control with strict diet restrictions and prescribed medications.
I had Bone Cancer when I was 9 years old. Chemotherapy and other drugs I took for its treatment resulted in CKD. Kidney Disease is just one permanent side-effect I am living with apart from quite a few others like cardiomegaly and permanent hearing loss in the right ear.
This difficult turn of life at 9 years of age, and the struggles that followed, however, did not deter me from steadily pursuing my studies. I kept studying and writing notes even while I was in the hospital. I completed my post-graduation on time and then worked in corporate organizations for 10 years. This zeal to study and work became my way of keeping occupied even through the suffering and strict diets.
I happen to have parents who are very strong both physically and mentally and also an equally supportive husband. They instilled this fighting spirit and positivity in me and continue to do it even now. I feel blessed for several things in my life.
I did have my periods of depression and still do. But my interactions in forums like KWF, being involved with various things and people help me to push forward every day.
The bottom line is, as long as ‘life’ is there, we need to live it.. by hook or by crook as the saying goes.
